God's Plan

Craig led our devotions this morning. He read from Jeremiah 29:11 which illustrates how none of us knows what God’s plan is, or how He works, but we need to have faith that He has one, and If it hadn’t been for he and Anna having a baby with spina bifida, we probably would not be here right now. You see, Craig and his family moved to Guam to live for 3 years, but shortly after arriving there they discovered that Anne was pregnant with their 3rd child. Soon after that they learned that the baby had spina bifida, so they realized they would need to move back home. They hoped they could move back to Bremerton where they had just moved from, but were sent to San Diego instead. If all of that hadn’t happened, we never would have met them and learned about FHC, so would not have made a mission trip here. So, this trip was made possible by Meghan’s disability. God worked through her circumstances to help other children with severe needs.

Nancy and Al fixed us magnificent ham and cheese and veggie omelets with fried potatoes for breakfast. Pastor Andy actually helped with the clean up!!

Then we all dispersed to our assigned houses to work with the children. Here is a picture of Kathy playing the guitar for the toddlers and leading them in singing several songs.

Later in the morning Lorraine and Kathy helped the older children get some exercise in the therapy pool. It was exciting to see Carlito’s, Zacarias’, and Veronica's faces burst into smiles when they got in the water. They are wheelchair bound, so just being able to relax in the warm water as it soothed their bodies filled them with delight and warmed our hearts.

Barb saw us having such a great time that she wanted to join in but didn’t have a bathing suit, so she went back to the house and cut off the legs of a pair of pants which she substituted for a suit so she could get in! Later the toddlers came down and Jennifer joined us. At one point there were 5 adults helping 6 toddlers splash and kick and have a wonderful time in the pool.
Getting the toddlers into the pool is a workout in itself!

Barbara had a great time in her make-shift swimsuit.

The rest of the day was filled with feeding, getting spit on, playing, cleaning up messes, and reading with the children.

Feeding time in the baby house. It's not just a job; it's an adventure.

On the weekdays, the toddlers have preschool in the morning, so a group went to help the kiddos make "dragones" out of play-doh.

Russ and Al spent the day building a big dolley to use in La Tacunga to move an industrial size washer and dryer into the house.

Craig and Cindy prepared a dinner of chicken enchiladas.

Tomorrow we leave for 3 days in La Tacunga. We don’t know if we will have internet access, but if we do, we will continue to blog.
